Coreopsis lanceolata is a perennial plant native to North America that blooms bright yellow flowers from May to July. It was once used for ornamental purposes and greening, but its vitality and reproductive power proved to be so strong that it drives out native plants and drastically alters the ecosystem.

For this reason, it is currently designated as a 'Specified Invasive Alien Species' by law, and keeping, cultivating, or transporting it is generally prohibited. In Nirasaki City, the population is on a downward trend thanks to the continuous cooperation of citizens, but persistent, ongoing activities are essential for complete extermination.
