Miyazaki City Launches New 'River Basin Journey' Tourism Concept; First Guided E-Biking Tour Starts in July, Bookings Open Today

Miyazaki City has announced the launch of its new tourism concept, 'Ryūiki Tabi (River Basin Journey) Wonder Field Miyazaki,' centered around the Kaeda River basin. Amid rising demand for experiential consumption, the city has aimed to create nature-based experience content that meets diverse needs.

The Kaeda River basin, with Mount Boroishi at its headwaters, is a rare area in Japan where mountains, gorges, forests, rice paddies, and the sea are all concentrated within a 7.5km stretch from the river mouth. It is a unique characteristic of the city that such rich nature is contained within a single administrative district. Its diverse landscapes and good accessibility have been highly praised by domestic adventure tourism experts.

The city has branded this entire basin as a single field, developing it as a unified tourism resource.

The brand message is 'Go with the flow, play in Miyazaki.'

As the first product, a 'Guided E-Biking Tour' has been developed to fully enjoy the rich nature, with reservations starting from Friday, June 5.

First Tour Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM (to be held regularly, mainly on weekends)

Start/End Point: ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki (Aoshima Area - Kaeda Gorge)

Fee: 14,500 JPY per person (includes guide and lunch) *Minimum of 2 participants required

Tour Contents:
- Cycling: Comfortably tour from the coast, through rural landscapes, to the Kaeda Gorge on an electric-assist bicycle.
- Lunch: Enjoy a special rice ball bento featuring locally produced rice.
- Chairing: Relax and have lunch while dipping your feet in the cool waters of the gorge.
- Trekking: Stroll along the gorge, which features a deep blue pool and impressive rock formations.
- Gorge Teatime: Take a break with herbal tea and local sweets.

This marks the third year since the city began refining its natural resources and developing this concept. We have proceeded in cooperation with the community through initiatives such as field surveys, interviews with local stakeholders, workshops, and guide training. As a result, a story and concept centered on the 'river basin' stage—a compact area with a variety of natural elements—have been completed.

Going forward, we will further deepen collaboration with local businesses and organizations, enhance the experience menu with products that can be enjoyed in a shorter time, and promote attracting visitors from both Japan and overseas.
