Over 45 million yen raised in just 9 days: 'Kitakyushu City Z-Generation Cheer Box' supports youth initiatives through simple deposits

Kitakyushu City and Minna-no-Ginko Bank have launched the 'Kitakyushu City Z-Generation Cheer Box' on June 1, 2026. When users deposit funds into designated Cheer Boxes, the bank contributes 1% of the total balance as support funding to Kitakyushu City. These funds will be used to support youth-driven initiatives through the 'Z-Generation Haminobase Contest'.

Why We Started This

Kitakyushu City aims to become 'Japan's most youth-supportive city' and has established the nation's first 'Z-Generation Division'.

While advancing youth support initiatives, we recognized a growing desire among citizens to:

- Support young people
- Participate in shaping the future of the community

We sought a simple, accessible way for more people to turn these intentions into action.

Thus, in collaboration with Minna-no-Ginko Bank, we created the Cheer Box—a mechanism that enables public support through the everyday act of depositing money.

What Is the Cheer Box?

By depositing money into a Cheer Box with a name including 'Kitakyushu City Z-Generation Division', supporters enable Minna-no-Ginko Bank to deliver 1% of the accumulated balance as grant funding to the Z-Generation Division.

Just nine days after launch, the balance has surpassed 45.23 million yen, reflecting widespread public support for youth.

In the fiscal year 2025 (Reiwa 7) 'Kitakyushu City Z-Generation Cheer Box':

- Final balance: Approximately 122 million yen
- Grant amount: 871,407 yen

These funds were allocated to youth projects selected through the 'Z-Generation Haminobase Contest'.

Mogutto Oshi-katsu: Taisyo de GO!

Revitalizing the Kokura Kita-ku Kajimachi district through 'oshi (favorite character) culture'. This initiative reimagines local restaurants by turning their owners into 'favorite characters' featured on collectible trading cards, complete with real-world events and city exploration experiences.

Ajiwau Kitakyushu

Promoting food diversity from a Gen Z perspective. Aggregating vegan and vegetarian-friendly menu information from restaurants across Kitakyushu City and launching a dedicated website to help international travelers with dietary restrictions access reliable information before their visit.

Kitakyushu City × Lingerie Collaboration

Combining Kitakyushu's legacy of 'strong manufacturing' with the 'elegance and delicacy' of lingerie to create a new image of 'innovative manufacturing' for the city.
