What is the 30th Anniversary Project of Kitahiroshima City?

Since its establishment as a city on September 1, 1996, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, we express deep respect and gratitude to the pioneers who developed the town since the immigration from Hiroshima Prefecture in 1884, and with the wish for Kitahiroshima City's future development, we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the city's establishment with citizens through commemorative ceremonies and by designating city projects as commemorative projects.

About the Kickoff Event

The promotion of agriculture is deeply intertwined with the history of Kitahiroshima City. In the early Meiji era, in Hokkaido, north of Donan, where rice cultivation was considered impossible due to the cold climate, a person named Kyuzo Nakayama successfully cultivated rice stably for the first time using "Akage-mai" (red-haired rice). By distributing these rice seeds free of charge to pioneering immigrants, rice cultivation spread throughout Hokkaido, making it the birthplace of cold-region rice farming.

For this kickoff event, we will screen the movie version of "Agri Kingdom Hokkaido" (currently "Agri Kingdom Hokkaido NEXT"), a TV program about agriculture that has been broadcast since 2008, with Hiroyuki Morisaki, who appears on the show and served as its navigator, as our guest. He will also hold a talk show. As this film is independently distributed, it will be a rare opportunity to watch it.

Through watching the film, we hope to reflect on the wonders of agriculture and the identity of Kitahiroshima City. We also planned this event to look forward to the city's future together with everyone through the bright and positive talk of Hiroyuki Morisaki, leader of "TEAM NACS," which also celebrates its 30th anniversary in March 2026, just like Kitahiroshima City.

Introduction to the Agri Kingdom Hokkaido Movie Version

"Agri Kingdom Hokkaido NEXT," a TV program about Hokkaido's agriculture and livestock industry that has been broadcast on Hokkaido Broadcasting (HBC) since 2008, was made into a movie in 2025, its 18th year, and premiered at the Hokkaido Foodie Festival.

This documentary, narrated by Hiroyuki Morisaki (TEAM NACS), records the rich land of Hokkaido and the passion of its producers, focusing on five traditional Sapporo vegetables: Sapporo Yellow, Sapporo Daikyu, Sapporo Midori, Sapporo Oonaga Namban, and Sapporo Shiro Gobo. Chef Hiroyuki Tsukada, a renowned Sapporo chef, appears as a cook. Chef Tsukada visits producers, handles vegetables in the fields, travels around various parts of Hokkaido, encountering traditional vegetables, Shihoro beef, and Furano vegetables, and combines them all to complete the "ultimate dish." This is a "food story" that not only conveys the charm of the ingredients but also embodies the producers' feelings, the history of the land, and hopes for the future in a single dish. It is a film that allows viewers to rediscover the blessings of Hokkaido's land and the value of its food culture through the screen.
