Kawasaki City's 'Career and Life Education' Adopted by Egypt-Japan Schools

Kawasaki City signed a memorandum of understanding on May 18 (Monday) with the Arab Republic of Egypt concerning the use of its 'Career and Life Education Notebook.' This agreement acknowledges the achievements of Kawasaki's unique 'Career and Life Education' model, which has been promoted since fiscal year 2016. Moving forward, the Egypt-Japan Schools (EJS) project management unit will lead the introduction and promotion of this 'Japanese-style education model,' centered on special activities (Tokkatsu), across the 69 existing Egypt-Japan Schools in the country.

Kawasaki's 'Career and Life Education' is a model designed to foster the abilities and attitudes necessary for students to lead independent lives while fulfilling their roles as members of society and maximizing their individual character. It adds the spirit of co-existence and collaboration, as well as a perspective of love for one's hometown, to standard career education.

The Egyptian government, which identifies educational reform as a key priority, decided on this implementation due to the high affinity between its philosophy of fostering autonomy, cooperation, and sociality in Egypt-Japan Schools and Kawasaki's educational approach. There is an urgent need to enrich 'life skills' education rather than relying solely on rote learning, and Kawasaki's materials are highly regarded as a valuable reference.

The goal is to expand this model to 500 Egypt-Japan Schools by around 2030. The initiative aims to instill the holistic 'Knowledge, Virtue, and Body' education of Japan through 'Tokkatsu' classes, as well as through physical education, music, and other subjects, to cultivate autonomy, cooperation, sociality, and discipline among students.
