Find It! Shoot It! Collect It! Itabashi City Launches New App "Takashimadaira Ryokuchi Midori no Collection"

Itabashi City has released a new smartphone app, "Takashimadaira Ryokuchi Midori no Collection" (hereinafter referred to as "Midori Collection"), on Friday, June 5, 2025. The app enables users to find, photograph, and collect wild plants that grow in the Takashimadaira Green Space.

"Midori Collection" was developed as part of a social experiment to examine the future use of the Takashimadaira Green Space. The goal is to transform the area, which has primarily functioned as a thoroughfare, into a place where people "can't help but want to walk" and "want to stay." The project aims to improve the circulation and dwell time within the green space, foster attachment and pride in local resources, and create new connections across generations.

【About Takashimadaira Green Space】

This is the largest green space in the ward, stretching approximately 2.7 kilometers along the Toei Mita Line (roughly from Nishi-Takashimadaira Station to Nishidai Station). It has been beloved by residents for over 50 years since its completion. However, in recent years, issues such as the aging of facilities like restrooms and pathways, as well as changes in user needs over time, have emerged. In response, the city formulated the "Takashimadaira Green Space Redevelopment Policy" in fiscal year 2024.

This policy is based on the concept of "creating a lush, green place that Takashimadaira can be proud of." Starting in fiscal year 2025, as a leading project, the city will formulate a specific redevelopment plan for the area from Takashimadaira Station to Nishidai Station (Takashimadaira 9-chome district). Currently, the city is conducting "social experiments" aimed at uncovering new attractions and vitality for Takashimadaira, with the intention of exploring the site's potential.

What kind of app is "Midori Collection"?

1. Collection Experience: Find and Collect Wild Plants

Over 70 species of wild plants growing within the Takashimadaira Green Space (Takashimadaira 9-chome district) are registered in the app. By actually photographing the plants in the green space, users can record and store them as their own collection.

2. Generate Your Own "Wild Plant Encyclopedia"

The photos taken will replace the existing images within the app, and will be recorded as an original wild plant encyclopedia. The system visualizes each user's unique "history of discoveries."

3. In-Park Map Function

The app includes a map of the green space, allowing users to plan their walking routes while enjoying the experience.

4. Potential Uses

In addition to providing an opportunity to foster an appreciation for greenery through the collection experience, the app has the potential to contribute to visitor interaction, community formation, and environmental education through events held using the app.
