[From the Home of Sayama Tea to the World] Iruma City's Future Vision of a "Well-being City"
~A New Model Woven from World-Class Traditional Techniques and Cutting-Edge Co-creation City Planning~
About 1 hour from the Tokyo metropolitan area. Blessed with the rich nature of the Kanto Plain, Iruma City features a beautiful original landscape of tea plantations, which is the northernmost limit for large-scale tea gardens in Japan. It is the main producing area of "Sayama Tea" with a history of about 400 years, and achieved an unprecedented feat of becoming "Number 1 in Japan for the 25th time, 20 consecutive years" at the National Hand-Rolled Tea Competition. A demonstration will also be performed at the Osaka-Kansai Expo to be held in 2025, broadcasting its wonderful traditional techniques to the world.
On the other hand, the diversity where the American culture of "Johnson Town," a redeveloped former US military base site, coexists with large commercial facilities is also a great attraction of this city. Selected as an "SDGs Future City" in 2022, it enacted Japan's first "We Love Delicious Sayama Tea Ordinance." Under the purpose of "Creating and passing down an 'original landscape of the future' where people can remain spiritually rich," we aim to realize "Well-being City Iruma."
Furthermore, through the public-private partnership platform "Iruma Future Co-creation Lab," we are successively giving shape to next-generation city planning that is not bound by conventions, such as fragrance analysis with universities and cross-industry collaborations with e-sports and entertainment companies.
