Inzai City's Commitment to "Local Production for Local Consumption" and Food Education

Inzai City is actively incorporating fresh agricultural products grown in the region into school lunches, creating opportunities for children to "know, taste, and take pride in local ingredients."

Children enjoying vegetables and fruits carefully grown by local farmers in their school lunches not only helps them feel the safety and security of food but also serves as an opportunity to feel closer to the charm of their local area.

Celebration School Lunch Event Held

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the city's establishment and to foster children's attachment to their hometown, Inzai City, and deepen their understanding of local production for local consumption and SDGs, a "Celebration School Lunch" event was held.

The school lunch menu featured special dishes utilizing local blessings, such as Inzai-grown vegetables and Inzai-grown Koshihikari rice. Of particular note was the pear jelly made from "imperfect pears" that do not meet shipping standards and would otherwise be discarded. This SDGs menu was developed with the aim of reducing food waste, and its packaging was designed with the city's mascot character "Inzaikun" and the city flower, Cosmos.

During lunchtime, Inzaikun made a surprise appearance, and a food education video introducing messages from local farmers was screened, creating a warm atmosphere throughout the venue.
