The 35th Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival

From Saturday, April 25 to Sunday, May 10, the "Ryujin Gorge Koinobori Festival" will be held at the Ryujin Great Suspension Bridge in Hitachiota City, Ibaraki Prefecture, which boasts one of the longest spans in Japan. The sight of about 1,000 carp streamers swimming gracefully through Hitachiota City, colored by vibrant fresh greenery, is both beautiful and overwhelmingly impressive! On Children's Day, May 5, the bridge crossing fee will be free for junior high school students and younger.

Approximately 500 carp streamers will be displayed in the sky above the Ryujin Dam (in two lines parallel to the Ryujin Great Suspension Bridge), and another 500 will be displayed around the Ryujin Great Suspension Bridge and along the roadside of Michi-no-Eki Hitachiota, for a total of about 1,000 streamers swimming together. In addition, mini carp streamers created by children attending local kindergartens, nursery schools, certified child centers, and special needs schools will be exhibited at the Suifu Products Center, Ryujin Cafe, library, Michi-no-Eki Hitachiota, and the first-floor lobby of the city hall. The carp streamers swimming elegantly amidst the fresh greenery are beautiful and pack a great punch.

On Saturday, April 25, and from Saturday, May 2 to Tuesday, May 5, the Ryujin Great Suspension Bridge will be illuminated! You can enjoy the suspension bridge at night, which is not usually seen.

During the event period, not only will the bridge crossing fee be free for junior high school students and younger on Tuesday, May 5 (a national holiday), but there will also be plenty of events for children to enjoy, such as workshops for making bags using discarded carp streamers, carp streamer making experiences, balloon art, and street performances! We look forward to welcoming many visitors.
