Connecting Okayama Prefectural Nature Conservation Center to the Future: Contract Awarded for Private Sector Collaboration Model Study

2. Background and Objectives
In September 2025, the Okayama Prefectural Nature Conservation Center was certified as a 'Nature Symbiosis Site' by the Ministry of the Environment. Following this certification, Okayama Prefecture initiated this project to ensure the center's sustainable operation and enhance its attractiveness. The goal is to conduct a multi-faceted investigation and analysis of new collaboration possibilities with private companies and formulate concrete collaboration models. The initiative aims to build mutually beneficial relationships by not only protecting the center's rich natural capital but also creating value in cooperation with regional businesses.

About the Nature Conservation Center
The center is a nature conservation and learning facility established to deepen understanding of nature conservation through interaction with the environment. It works on the protection and conservation of various plants, including rare species such as the wild-extinct Lysimachia thyrsiflora (Mizutoranoo). Its conservation areas for wetland and aquatic plants have been certified as a Nature Symbiosis Site. Additionally, the center breeds Japanese Cranes (a national natural monument), conducts nature surveys, and organizes workshops and observation events for human resource development and public outreach.

About Nature Symbiosis Sites
A 'Nature Symbiosis Site' is a national certification system for areas where biodiversity conservation is achieved through the initiatives of private companies or regional organizations. It plays a role in visualizing activities aimed at achieving the '30by30' goal—to conserve more than 30% of land and sea by 2030—and expanding biodiversity conservation areas.

3. Project Overview
To achieve sustainable operation and improve the center's appeal, the following tasks will be conducted as part of the private sector collaboration possibility study:
(1) Target definition and current situation analysis
(2) Collection and comparative analysis of advanced cases in Japan and overseas
(3) Examination of project evaluation methods and project evaluation
(4) Roadmap formulation
