Chiba University (Headquarters: Chiba City, Inage Ward, Chiba Prefecture; President: Kotaro Yokote) will open "Nishi-Chiba Campus Park," an approximately 12,000m2 exchange space on the east side of the Nishi-Chiba Campus on July 1, 2026. This park integrates the university's "University Plaza" within its grounds and Chiba City's "Yayoi-cho Park." To create a new pathway from this area towards the campus center, a new "Higashi-guchi Gate" has been installed at the entrance, and a 90m long, approximately 20m wide pedestrian walkway called the "Green Mall" has been developed.
This area was developed in conjunction with the large-scale redevelopment of the former Tokyo University Nishi-Chiba Campus site, adjacent to Chiba University's Nishi-Chiba Campus, aiming to create a "cultural and educational town development" where the university, community, businesses, and local government can grow together. By improving accessibility from surrounding areas and creating an open space not only for students and faculty but also for local residents, it is expected to become a new gateway connecting the university and the community through public-private-academic collaboration.
Upon entering the newly established Higashi-guchi Gate, you will see the Integrated Research Building for Engineering (left) and the Integrated Research Building for Natural Sciences 2. The "Green Mall," as its name suggests, is a 90m long green walkway that will serve as a new route connecting the community and the university.
President's Comment: "Towards an Exchange Hub Connecting the University and the Community, Where Diverse Generations Gather, Relax, and Learn Together"
Nishi-Chiba Campus Park integrates Chiba University's "University Plaza" and Chiba City's "Yayoi-cho Park" and will be jointly operated. In addition to daily use by students and faculty, it is planned to be a venue for activities where diverse generations can "gather, relax, and learn together," such as community participation events and exchanges. Under its university vision, "To Chiba University, which opens up the future through the resonance of knowledge, connecting life, environment, and society," the university will continue to promote the creation of an open university by connecting people, knowledge, and the community.
