Associate Professor Norimichi Tsumura of Chiba University's Graduate School of Informatics / Design Research Institute (dri), and Associate Professor Norimichi Suzuki of the Center for Preventive Medical Sciences / dri, have created two VR worlds within the social VR platform "VRChat" recreating the "Chiba University Sumida Satellite Campus 1F/2F" and a "Future Home." This was done as part of the "Metaverse Remote Technology" project, a highly advanced digital R&D system subsidized by national university facility maintenance grants. This project aims at the social implementation of new "remote technologies" through the fusion of the latest digital twin technology and design.
These spaces were created with the aim of utilizing them for events and remote lectures, and to strengthen the development of digital human resources. Uploading and public access began sequentially on March 27, 2026.
Plant cultivation space on the 1st floor of the "Sumida Satellite Campus" in VR space (top) and physical space (bottom).
Overview of the VR Worlds
1) The "Sumida Satellite Campus" World: Recreating the Concept and Functions of the Physical Space
The Sumida Satellite Campus is a co-creation hub for industry-government-academia-citizen collaboration aiming to solve regional issues with a focus on design. One of the highlights of this world is the reproduction of the "Automaton Clock" and the living lab "Atsuma-Re HUB LAB SUMIDA" installed in the physical space. By making the campus, which gathers many people in physical space, accessible in VR, it is expected that more people can experience the campus's identity in the digital world.

2) The "Future Home" World: Experiencing Mental/Physical Health and the Future
The "Future Home" world, released simultaneously, embodies a part of a well-being living space supervised by Assoc. Prof. Tsumura and Assoc. Prof. Suzuki. It is a space where visitors can have "see, touch, and talk" experiences as follows:
- Well-being experience: Proposing a comfortable future space, such as relaxing videos in a sleep pod and a theater room for talking with friends.
- Guide Robot "Nekoha": A future pet robot guides you around the world while chatting.
- Interactive elements: Mechanisms that let you experience daily activities like cooking and training as if playing a game.
