Chemitox Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 1-14-18 Kamiikedai, Ota-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Koichi Nakayama) has developed a new output measurement method tailored to the characteristics of perovskite solar cells.
Perovskite solar cells are known to be difficult to evaluate accurately even when measured under the same conditions as conventional crystalline silicon solar cells. The method developed by the company addresses these challenges and supports more appropriate output evaluation. A patent application for this method has already been filed (Patent Application 2026-005206).
In recent years, perovskite solar cells, which are attracting attention as next-generation solar cells, are rapidly advancing in research and development and practical application. On the other hand, their performance evaluation has unique difficulties, and if conventional measurement methods widely used for crystalline silicon solar cells are applied as they are, correct output measurement may not be possible. That is, crystalline silicon solar cells generally have fast and stable photoresponse, allowing measurement with a pulse solar simulator using short-term light irradiation in the millisecond order. In contrast, perovskite solar cells have slow photoresponse characteristics, and I-V characteristic measurement takes at least several seconds, and in some cases several tens of minutes. Furthermore, since the characteristics gradually change due to light irradiation itself, the light irradiation time must also be considered, and the prolongation of measurement time is an issue.
Large-scale perovskite-compatible steady-state solar simulator owned by our company.
Currently, the following two types of measurement methods are used for performance measurement of perovskite solar cells:
Maximum power output measurement by MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking)
I-V characteristic measurement by long-time sweep
The measurement method developed by the company integrates the above measurements, enabling:
Consistency between the maximum output value measured by MPPT and the maximum output value measured by I-V characteristics
Shortening of measurement time by integrating measurements
This realizes highly accurate results for perovskite solar cells in a shorter time. By unifying the sweep of I-V characteristic measurement, a time reduction of about 50% is possible depending on the product.
Example of output measurement of perovskite solar cells by the developed measurement method
Conventional I-V characteristic measurement (the issue is that Pmax values may not match in both directions of sweep)
Pmax value determined by MPPT method (Pmax is uniquely determined, but the I-V characteristic curve graph at that time cannot be obtained)
