Minoh City's Specialty "Mimosa" Promoted Through Handmade Crafts | Full-Scale Expansion of Senior Workshops and On-Site Classes Alongside Furusato Nozei Development

■ Promoting Minoh, Osaka's Specialty "Mimosa" Through Handmade Crafts. Launching a Regional Revitalization Project with Furusato Nozei and Full-Scale Expansion of Senior Workshops and On-Site Classes

Chérie Brosse, which operates "no-sew handmade craft classes" based in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture, is developing original fabrics featuring mimosa, a local specialty of the city.

Minoh City boasts the largest production of mimosa in Osaka Prefecture and has been cultivating it since the Meiji era. The background to this initiative is the desire to convey its charm to more people.

This initiative is part of a regional revitalization project that aims to promote local resources through handmade crafts and is considering their inclusion as Furusato Nozei (hometown tax donation) return gifts.

Mimosa can be seen even in residential areas within Minoh City.

Until now, we have continuously engaged in activities connecting the region with handmade crafts, including developing fabrics and goods featuring Minoh City's PR character "Takinomichi Yuzuru" and having them adopted as Furusato Nozei return gifts.

This mimosa fabric is the second phase of this initiative, aiming to promote the region's charm and create new value.

■ Initiatives to Convey Minoh's Charm Through "Fabric"

Minoh City is known as a livable city where nature and residences are in harmony, with many residents having a strong attachment to the area.

With the convenience of accessing Osaka city in about 30 minutes due to the extension of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line in addition to the Hankyu Minoh Line, along with robust childcare support and good public safety, it has recently gained strong support, especially from families.

I myself spent my childhood in Minoh, and after moving away, I rediscovered its charm and am now based in the city for my activities.

With this in mind, we are engaged in handmade craft development utilizing local resources.

■ "Cafeminage®" Creates Crafting Enjoyable for Everyone

The technique utilized in this initiative is "Cafeminage®," a handcrafted art originating from Kobe.

It is a handmade technique that uses Cafeminage's original special sheets to treat fabric like a sticker.

No needles or thread are used, and if you can use scissors, you can create items. Since it can be repositioned, even beginners can participate with confidence.

Crafting process

Since a project can be completed in a single session, participants easily gain a sense of accomplishment, and a wide range of generations, from children to seniors, can participate. A characteristic feature is that conversation naturally arises through the completed works, and smiles spread.

■ Activities Expanding to Furusato Nozei and Regional Events

In 2024, we released original fabric featuring Minoh City's PR character "Takinomichi Yuzuru" (certified by the Minoh Chamber of Commerce Yuzu Project).

After its unveiling at the "1st fresh+up Market in Minoh City Hall" event, sponsored by Minoh City and the Minoh Chamber of Commerce, we have been continuously holding our self-organized event "Chérie Yuzu Marche" at a commercial facility (Minoh Q's Mall).

Furthermore, fabric goods and experiential lessons using the same fabric have been adopted as Furusato Nozei return gifts for Minoh City, leading to the promotion of its charm outside the region.

■ The Potential of "Crafting" to Connect People Across Generations

Cafeminage is a "crafting" activity that allows participants to complete a project in a short time, providing a sense of satisfaction, and also offers practicality for daily use.

It is expected to be a creative activity enjoyable for all generations, thanks to the pleasure of working with one's hands.

Leveraging our experience in conducting classes at day services, senior facilities, and culture schools, we are now considering introducing regular classes and on-site workshops at residential senior facilities and senior-friendly condominiums.

Additionally, we can propose the introduction of recreation classes by external instructors and continuous programs aimed at improving resident satisfaction.
