The National Community Foundation Association, based in Kyoto City and chaired by Jun Takahashi, has initiated a grant program titled "Community Disaster Prevention and Recovery Strength Enhancement Grant Program Built with Local Industries and Community Businesses." This program, announced on April 10, 2026, leverages funds from dormant deposits under the Act on the Utilization of Dormant Deposits. It offers financial support of up to 25 million JPY per organization over approximately three years (July 1, 2026, to February 28, 2029) to foster the creation and operation of permanent "Disaster Funds (Local Funds)" by citizen-led initiatives. The goal is to enhance regional disaster response capabilities in peacetime and contribute to sustainable community building. The program also seeks to establish collaboration frameworks with local businesses to utilize their resources (facilities, goods, technology, personnel) for disaster prevention, mitigation, recovery, and reconstruction. The association collaborates with Certified NPO ETIC., providing expertise in funding support, project formation, talent matching, and corporate partnerships. Eligible projects must address three pillars: establishing disaster funds, building multi-organizational networks, and providing support during disasters. The application deadline is May 29, 2026, at noon. Online briefing sessions are scheduled for April 15 and April 24, 2026.
