What is Cellular Agriculture?
Cellular Agriculture is a new method of producing foods and materials, which were previously made from livestock and crops, using the power of "cells" and "microorganisms." A prime example is "cellular food," which is created by culturing animal cells to produce meat instead of raising animals. These technologies are expected not only to reduce future food shortages and environmental burden but also hold the potential to create "entirely new kinds of food." In recent years, research, development, and commercialization have been progressing worldwide, making it a field that could significantly transform our way of eating.
About the Cellular Agriculture Conference
The Japan Cellular Agriculture Association hosts an annual conference on cellular agriculture. This conference, where researchers, startups, companies, and policymakers gather to share the latest trends and network, has consistently attracted 200-300 participants.
For the 8th conference, in addition to reporting on research outcomes, we are planning a program that focuses on "social implementation and business development."
Conference Theme: "Future Food" into Current Business
Technologies surrounding cellular agriculture, such as cellular foods (cultured meat) and precision fermentation, are advancing rapidly. On the other hand, for social implementation, complex challenges such as "safety evaluation," "legal regulations," and "market acceptance" are becoming apparent. This conference will delve into the connection between research, regulation, and business from the perspective of "how to make it a viable business."
