■ What is Cellular Agriculture?
Cellular Agriculture is a novel method of producing foods and materials, which were previously obtained from livestock and crops, by harnessing the power of "cells" and "microorganisms." A prime example is "cell-based food" technology, where meat is produced by cultivating animal cells instead of raising and slaughtering animals. These technologies are not only expected to be a means to reduce future food shortages and environmental burdens but also hold the potential to create "unprecedented new foods." In recent years, research and development as well as commercialization have been advancing worldwide, making it a highly anticipated field that could significantly change the future of our food system.

The Cellular Agriculture Institute of Japan holds an annual conference on cellular agriculture.
