CE Media House has released 'What People Who Get Rehired Do Differently,' a book summarizing the essence of client work by Tooru Uesaka, a book writer with 30 years of freelance experience, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

What Is the Gap Between 'Clients' and 'Freelancers'?

Japan is home to approximately 13 million freelancers. Yet, why do corporate clients often lament, 'There’s no one reliable enough to assign work to'?

On the other hand, why do so many freelancers with solid skills still struggle with a lack of repeat assignments?

The root of this 'gap' lies not in skill level, but in whether freelancers understand the 'logic' (underlying principles) of their clients.

In this book, a 'legendary book writer' who has never had a gap in work for over 30 years reveals, step by step, the survival strategies needed to secure lifelong success.

Employees and Freelancers Operate by Different Logics

Company employees, as clients, operate under 'organizational logic.' What they seek isn’t just high-quality output. Amid tight schedules involving reporting to superiors, internal coordination, and risk management, individuals who are 'slow to respond,' 'overly perfectionist,' or 'excessively communicative'—those with high 'communication costs'—are quickly removed from the 're-hire' list.

Can You Relate to the Protagonist? Experience the Journey Through Storytelling — The Tale of a 28-Year-Old New Freelance Writer

This book is structured in two parts: a 'story' set in the real world of web media, and in-depth 'explanations' by the author.

Follow the journey of Reina, a young freelance writer who, four months after going independent, runs out of work and receives harsh feedback on her best-effort manuscript. Experience how she transforms into a consistently in-demand professional through guidance from a seasoned writer.
