## What is the Newsweek Japan SDGs Award?
If the media broadly communicates even small initiatives by Japanese companies, it can create empathy, lead to new ideas, and bring us closer to solving social issues.
Launched by Newsweek Japan in 2023, this award project recognizes outstanding SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) initiatives by companies operating in Japan. Beyond simple recognition, its purpose is to use media power to widely share sustainable corporate cases, generate empathy, and broadcast them globally to accelerate solutions to social problems.
For this 3rd year, 56 partner companies participated. Initiatives were categorized into sectors such as environment, society, economy, decarbonization, and regional issues. Following a rigorous screening process by the editorial department and external judge Professor Norichika Kanie (Keio University Graduate School), the winning companies were selected.
In addition, the editorial department selected Special Awards for companies conducting sustainable efforts aligned with the award's concept.
Since 2024, as part of the SDGs Award project, joint research has been conducted with the Keio University SFC Research Institute. This research aims to create new evaluation metrics that allow SMEs and large corporations to be assessed under the same conditions. Students lead this research, and a Student Category Award has been determined using these metrics.
On March 31, 2026, Newsweek Japan published a 'Sustainability Special Feature,' reporting on the SDGs Award 2025 and introducing the winning companies.
