This exhibition will feature and sell 'intaglio resin art' works by Chiaki Mizusaki, who creates unique works using an original technique rarely seen worldwide.
Through this technique, Mizusaki creates semi-dimensional works that realistically reproduce and layer feathers and scales one by one, as well as flat works reminiscent of mother-of-pearl inlay and maki-e using three-dimensional coloring, thus breaking down the barriers between flat and three-dimensional art. Last year, Mizusaki challenged the question of whether "pointillism" could be achieved with this technique, and this will be its debut in Karuizawa.
About the Exhibition 'The World of Resin Painting Sculpture'
Using printmaking techniques, lines and colors are applied to transparent resin, expressing beautiful creatures beyond the boundaries of flat and three-dimensional art. While printmaking works are transferred to paper, Mizusaki's works are created by hardening liquid resin and transferring lines onto the "resin" itself.
The intricate line drawings and the lines applied to each feather are all created by filling engraved lines on a printing plate with color and resin. This unique technique gives birth to semi-dimensional works that realistically reproduce feathers and scales, and flat works reminiscent of mother-of-pearl inlay and maki-e. The color palette of the works reproduces structural colors with multi-layer coloring, revealing different hues depending on the viewing angle and light. Because the color impression changes from day to night even in the same room, images cannot convey everything. Please come and encounter these unique, once-in-a-lifetime works. We hope you will visit as many times as you like during the exhibition period.

【Message from Chiaki Mizusaki】
This year marks my 8th year as an artist, and I have reached this point by continuously taking on new challenges, no matter how small, with each work I create. Following last spring, I am very pleased to once again present 'The World of Resin Painting Sculpture' in Karuizawa. Images cannot convey everything. I would be delighted if you could visit multiple times during the exhibition period and experience the artworks that change and captivate with each encounter.

◆Chiaki Mizusaki
Devised the original technique [Intaglio Resin Art] which involves applying lines and colors to transparent resin using printmaking techniques. Since 2018, using this unique method, Mizusaki creates original resin painting sculptures such as semi-dimensional paintings reproducing and layering feathers and scales one by one, and flat works colored like mother-of-pearl inlay and maki-e. The motifs are creatures that seem real yet reside in a Utopian world (Kasho) where they are as they are, in harmony and without conflict. Mizusaki expresses a worldview where overwhelming stillness and continuously breathing vitality coexist and strangely merge through resin painting sculpture.
