Carstay Registers 90 New Campervans from 11 Rental Companies Nationwide

Carstay Inc. (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa; CEO: Koki Miyashita), a leading platform for van life offering campervan and overnight parking spot sharing, vehicle manufacturing, and renovations, has partnered with 11 campervan rental companies nationwide. Coupled with an increase in individual car-sharing registrations, the company recorded 90 new campervan registrations between March and May 2026, the highest number ever for this period. Through its specialized campervan car-sharing and rental platform, which boasts 80,000 members, Carstay aims to support rental businesses in strengthening customer acquisition, expanding sales channels, and improving vehicle utilization rates.

With these new additions, the total number of campervans on Carstay's platform has reached 491.

While Carstay's registrations were previously centered around individual owners, the company is now strengthening its partnerships with campervan and rental businesses nationwide to broaden the range of available vehicle types. Carstay provides personalized support through one-on-one meetings with each business, enabling them to list their campervans on the Carstay platform.

Carstay launched Japan's first car-sharing platform for vehicles including campervans, suitable for overnight stays, in June 2020. Vehicle owners, both individuals and corporations, can register their vehicles on Carstay and rent them out to users for a fee, helping to offset maintenance costs and increase rental revenue.

Rental businesses can utilize features such as reservation management, user communication (chat), and payment processing free of charge for initial setup and monthly fees. Furthermore, by reaching new customer segments through Carstay's platform of 80,000 members, businesses can expect increased campervan usage and improved utilization rates.

Against the backdrop of rising domestic accommodation prices and increased travel costs due to the weak yen and rising fuel prices, demand for domestic travel is growing as people opt out of overseas trips. Notably, during Golden Week in 2026, final bookings for car-sharing and overnight parking spots reached approximately 600, with a Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) of about 19 million yen, both representing a 150% increase year-on-year.

Usage of campervans with pets has increased approximately 2.5 times compared to the previous year. Many accommodations have restrictions on pets, leading to increased use of Carstay, which offers a wide selection of pet-friendly campervans, driven by the desire to "spend time in the same space as their beloved dogs."

Campervans integrate travel and accommodation, and their use is expanding, particularly among families and pet owners, as they can be cost-effective for group travel.
