CarbonNest Inc. (CEO: Kei Kawasaki, Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo), an energy startup developing and operating DAC (Direct Air Capture) equipment that directly captures CO2 from the atmosphere, has announced that it has moved into "SUISO no MORI hub" (Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture, within Niterra's Komaki Plant), the demonstration field for the "Suiso no Mori" project promoted by Niterra Co., Ltd. (President: Keiji Suzuki, Headquarters: Higashi-ku, Nagoya, formerly NGK Spark Plug Co., Ltd., hereinafter referred to as Niterra), and has commenced a demonstration test using a small-scale DAC device.

Background

In addition to soaring prices of fossil fuels and chemical products, some industries face structural limitations in reducing CO2 emissions, making the establishment of technology to directly "remove and capture" CO2 from the atmosphere an urgent necessity.

CarbonNest has set its business vision as "CO2 into Energy—Transforming Carbon Dioxide into a Force to Drive Regions," and has been working to create a system for circulating captured CO2 as regional electricity, fuel, and industrial resources. Now, by participating in Niterra's "Suiso no Mori" project, which aims to create new businesses through co-creation with startups possessing innovative technologies, a demonstration through collaboration between the two companies has begun.

CarbonNest's Strengths

CarbonNest's strength lies not only in the development of DAC hardware but also in its operational control technology that optimally controls the system according to the local energy environment and the intended use of the captured CO2. CarbonNest enables the operation of DAC in diverse environments, allowing for stable and efficient CO2 capture.

Demonstration Overview

The small-scale DAC device used in this demonstration achieved over 200 hours of continuous stable operation outdoors in Ishikari City, Hokkaido, from November to December 2025. This device will be installed at SUISO no MORI hub for approximately one month to verify its CO2 capture performance in the high-temperature and high-humidity environment of Aichi Prefecture.

This phase is positioned as Phase 1, and the possibility of utilizing factory waste heat will be considered in the future.

Future Outlook

Starting with this demonstration, CarbonNest aims to develop carbon recycling in the future by combining small-scale DAC with Niterra's assets, utilizing captured CO2 as a resource. With its control technology that achieves stable and low-cost capture even in regions with significantly different environments, CarbonNest will draw a new future vision for CO2 utilization through collaboration with Niterra.

Comment from Niterra Co., Ltd.

We feel that CarbonNest's business vision of "CO2 into Energy" has high affinity with the direction of our technology exploration towards achieving carbon neutrality, which our group aims for.

Starting with this demonstration test, we expect that by combining CarbonNest's assets, including its excellent operational control technology, with the assets and resources of our group, it will lead to co-creation of carbon recycling technology and acceleration of its social implementation.

CEO Comment

Under the vision of "CO2 into Energy," we aim to transform atmospheric CO2 into regional power. Participation in Niterra's "Suiso no Mori" project is a major step towards concretely realizing the potential of CO2 utilization and carbon circulation in a demonstration setting. Through the co-creation of both companies, we will continue to vigorously promote the full-scale social implementation of CO2 utilization.
