Carbon EX Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Co-CEOs: Kohei Nishiwada and Shunsuke Takeda; hereinafter 'the Company') has supported Sunayama Shoji Co., Ltd. (hereinafter 'Sunayama Shoji'), a regional industrial trading company based in Ishikawa Prefecture that operates in industrial equipment and energy-related businesses, in completing the registration of J-Credits for its solar power generation facilities.
In this initiative, the Company provided end-to-end support for Sunayama Shoji, ranging from assessing the potential for J-Credit creation to the final registration process, utilizing the environmental value of solar power facilities owned or proposed by Sunayama Shoji.
### Background of J-Credit Utilization in the Housing Business The J-Credit Scheme is a system where the national government certifies the amount of greenhouse gas emissions reduced through the introduction of renewable energy equipment or energy-saving activities, allowing these reductions to be utilized as environmental value. However, utilizing this system requires specialized knowledge and practical handling, which poses a high barrier for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Sunayama Shoji is a community-based industrial trading company that provides a variety of products and services to corporations, primarily in the manufacturing sector, and general households in Ishikawa Prefecture. As they expanded their business areas from industrial equipment, high-pressure gas, and housing-related equipment to solar power systems and environmental devices, they noticed a challenge: even when client companies were reducing CO2 emissions through solar power, they were unable to fully utilize that environmental value.
In many cases, emission reductions did not lead to revenue and were not sufficiently utilized in PR or sales proposals. Furthermore, the burden of additional investment often became a barrier even when clients wanted to further advance renewable energy adoption. Given this situation, Sunayama Shoji began seriously considering the J-Credit Scheme as a mechanism to monetize CO2 reduction value while leveraging its strengths in the solar power business.
### Key Points of Carbon EX’s J-Credit Registration Support The Company provided the following support to achieve approval for this project:
1. Organizing Creation Schemes and Application Support for Solar Power Facilities The Company assessed the potential for J-Credit creation across a wide range of solar power facilities, from industrial to residential, and provided comprehensive support including organizing considerations for registration applications, document preparation, and audit response.
2. Hands-on Practical Support to Supplement Expertise and Manpower Shortages Since the J-Credit Scheme involves highly specialized tasks such as organizing equipment information, calculating emission reductions, and preparing application materials, the Company provided information to deepen system understanding, supported the creation of application documents, and provided templates for study group materials. This enabled Sunayama Shoji to establish a framework that was easy to execute even for their first creation project.
### Future Outlook Through this J-Credit registration, Sunayama Shoji has established a framework that integrates proposals from solar equipment installation to the visualization and creditization of CO2 reductions. This allows them to evolve from simple equipment sales to 'providing environmental value,' enabling them to present new added value to customers by incorporating CO2 reduction as a revenue opportunity into their sales activities. It is expected that relationships with customers will expand from one-off equipment installations to mid-to-long-term partnerships.
Moving forward, Sunayama Shoji will steadily advance ongoing projects within Ishikawa Prefecture and aims to expand nationwide in the future, becoming an entity that simultaneously supports the decarbonization and profitability of regional companies. Carbon EX will also continue to support project creation using the J-Credit Scheme, contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society where environmental and economic values circulate.
