Canon Marketing Japan Inc. (President: Masatsugu Adachi; hereafter "Canon MJ") has introduced its "Identity Verification Support Solution" to The Chiba Bank, Ltd. (President: Tsutomu Yonemoto; hereafter "Chiba Bank"). Chiba Bank will begin using this solution for identity verification at its branches starting April 25, 2026. This solution enables highly reliable identity verification and streamlining of counter operations in compliance with the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds (APTCP), which is scheduled for revision in April 2027. This will help prevent fraudulent account openings and use, while supporting improved customer convenience and service expansion.

In recent years, financial crimes such as identity theft, fraudulent account opening, and specialized fraud have been increasing, leading financial institutions to review their identity verification methods and operations. Due to the revision of the APTCP, starting in April 2027, reading the IC chips of identity verification documents will be mandatory in principle for face-to-face transactions as well as online transactions. Consequently, following major city banks that have pioneered these efforts, regional financial institutions such as regional banks and credit unions, which place a high weight on branch operations, are seriously considering solutions that look toward operational efficiency and store digitalization alongside regulatory compliance.

Canon MJ has been providing the "Identity Verification Support Solution" since November 2024 and has been enhancing its functions based on knowledge gained from actual operations and requests from client companies.

Recently, Canon MJ introduced this solution to Chiba Bank's branch tablet "TSUBASA Smile." This solution optimizes the identity verification process at financial institution counters. By reading the IC chip information from documents such as My Number Cards and Driver's Licenses, it verifies the authenticity of the documents on the system. Furthermore, using Canon's proprietary high-precision facial recognition technology, it compares the face image stored in the IC chip with the customer's appearance to determine their identity with high accuracy. Additionally, the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) function reads information on the face of the document using the tablet's camera and automatically reflects the acquired information into the business system. This solution not only reduces the burden of procedures for customers but also contributes to reducing manual entry tasks and preventing input errors by bank employees. Moreover, by linking identity verification results to the core banking system, it realizes automation of the entire business process, including subsequent tasks, supporting the efficiency and service quality of financial institutions.

Canon MJ will continue to improve and expand the functions of the "Identity Verification Support Solution" while reflecting the needs of financial institutions and the voices of users, and keeping track of the government's future identity verification method trends. Starting from this implementation at Chiba Bank, we will expand the use of this solution not only to financial institutions nationwide but also to identity verification procedures in other industries such as telecommunications and real estate.
