Announcement of the 30th "Blood Cancer Know-It-Night" Seminar: Focus on Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Certified NPO CancerNet Japan (Tokyo, Japan; Chairman: Satoshi Iwase) has been holding monthly online seminars on blood cancers called "Blood Cancer Know-It-Night" since 2023. The 30th session in August 2026 will focus on the theme of "Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia."
Participation is possible from anywhere in Japan with an internet connection. The online seminar, which can even be joined from a hospital room, has been very well-received. Participation is free of charge.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
In recent years, new examination methods have been incorporated into the diagnosis, risk classification, and treatment response assessment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, significantly influencing treatment strategies. Treatment outcomes have improved through intensified chemotherapy. Furthermore, the advent of molecular targeted drugs and CAR-T cell therapy has led to better outcomes even in relapsed or refractory cases. Consequently, the role of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is also evolving, and these aspects will be discussed.
Dr. Shinichi Kako (Professor, Department of Hematology, Saitama Medical Center, Jichi Medical University)
Became a physician in 2001 and has been specializing in hematology since 2003, treating a wide range of blood disorders. His particular focus has been on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and research for hematologic malignancies and aplastic anemia. Regarding Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, he has conducted research on transplant indications in the first complete remission phase, among other studies.

Each session of "Blood Cancer Know-It-Night" features leading experts in the field who provide explanations on various blood cancer topics. Even though it is an online seminar, emphasis is placed on the Q&A session for interactive communication, allowing participants to deepen their understanding. The seminar has a high satisfaction rate among past attendees. It is utilized not only by patients and their families but also by many healthcare professionals, including nurses, as an opportunity to share and learn from questions posed from various perspectives.

[Certified NPO CancerNet Japan]
Founded in 1991, CancerNet Japan's mission is to provide scientifically-based information so that cancer patients can undergo treatment based on their own informed decisions. It was incorporated as an NPO in 2001, established a dedicated secretariat in January 2007, and currently operates nationwide with bases in Tokyo and Osaka. It became a certified NPO in August 2016. Its main activities include awareness events on various cancers, production of the "We Want You to Know More" series of booklets available at cancer treatment collaboration hospitals nationwide, and educational programs such as training courses and certification exams. Through these activities, it aims to realize a society where people facing cancer can do so on their own terms. The Japan Cancer Forum, held annually since 2014 to disseminate the latest medical information on all types of cancer, including rare cancers, is one of the largest cancer awareness events targeting not only cancer patients and their families but also the general public.
