Myeloma treatment for the elderly is entering a new phase. Treatment outcomes are improving with new combination therapies using existing drugs and immunotherapies such as bispecific antibodies. This lecture will present new standard treatments and future prospects for elderly myeloma treatment.
Professor Kaoruki Ito (Department of Hematology and Oncology, Internal Medicine, Iwate Medical University)
Graduated from Iwate Medical University in 1991. Trained as a hematologist, studied abroad at Indiana University in the United States in 2004. Serves as a director of the Japanese Society of Myeloma and is involved in clinical trials and research on myeloma therapeutic drugs.

Established in 1991, its mission is to disseminate evidence-based information so that cancer patients can undergo treatment based on their own will. It was incorporated as an NPO in 2001, opened a dedicated office in January 2007, and now operates nationwide from bases in Tokyo and Osaka. Becoming a certified NPO in August 2016, its main activities currently include awareness events for various cancers, production of the "Motto Shitte Hoshii Series" booklets installed in cancer care hospitals nationwide, and educational programs such as training courses and certification exams. Through these activities, it aims to realize a society where people facing cancer can live authentically. The Japan Cancer Forum, held annually since 2014 to disseminate the latest medical information on all cancers, including rare cancers, is one of the largest cancer awareness events targeting not only cancer patients and their families but also the general public.
