Myeloma treatment for the elderly is entering a new phase. Treatment outcomes have improved with new combination therapies using existing drugs and immune therapies such as bispecific antibodies. This lecture will present new standard treatments and future prospects for myeloma treatment in the elderly.
Dr. Kaoruki Ito (Professor, Department of Hematology and Oncology, Internal Medicine, Iwate Medical University)
Graduated from Iwate Medical University in 1991. After training as a hematologist, he studied at Indiana University in the USA in 2004. He serves as a director of the Japanese Society of Myeloma and is involved in clinical trials and research on myeloma therapeutic drugs.

Established in 1991, its mission is to disseminate scientifically based information so that cancer patients can undergo treatment based on their own will. It became an NPO in 2001, opened a dedicated office in January 2007, and currently operates nationwide from bases in Tokyo and Osaka. In August 2016, it became a certified NPO. Its main activities currently include awareness-raising events for various cancers, production of "More You Should Know Series" pamphlets installed in cancer treatment collaboration base hospitals nationwide, and educational projects such as training courses and certification exams. Through these activities, it aims to realize a society where people facing cancer can confront it in their own way. The Japan Cancer Forum, held annually since 2014 to disseminate the latest medical information on all cancers, including rare cancers, is the largest cancer awareness event targeting not only cancer patients and their families but also the general public.
