Calbee Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Makoto Ebara) will launch "Potato Chips Kansai Aji Roman Chirimen Sansho Flavor," which reproduces the taste of a Kyoto specialty, as part of its Kansai-limited brand "Potato Chips Kansai Aji Roman" (hereinafter referred to as "Kansai Aji Roman"), which embodies the food culture of Kansai. This product will be available in limited quantities starting July 6, 2026 (Mon.) at stores other than convenience stores in the Kinki region (Osaka, Hyogo, Shiga, Kyoto, Nara, Wakayama), following its release in Osaka, Hyogo, and Shiga prefectures.

[Background of the Project]

In April 2025, Calbee launched the Kansai-limited potato chip brand "Kansai Aji Roman" series with the desire to create products that are rooted in the local community and loved by customers for a long time. The standard products include "Dashi Shio Aji," which offers the taste of combined dashi broth said to have originated in Osaka, and "Ajitsuke Nori Fuumi," made with nori from Harima Nada in Hyogo Prefecture.

This time, as a new flavor for the "Kansai Aji Roman" series, we have recreated the taste of "Chirimen Sansho," a Kyoto specialty. This product was developed in cooperation with the Kyoto Prefectural Government, which promotes Kyoto's food culture, in terms of flavor selection and package design. Furthermore, we collaborated with "Harem," a long-established restaurant founded in Miyagawa-cho, Kyoto, the birthplace of "Chirimen Sansho," to faithfully reproduce its authentic taste. We want people living in the Kinki region, as well as visitors to Kansai, to try this product.

[Product Features]

* Reproduces the rich flavor and umami of chirimen (young sardines) simmered in soy sauce, followed by the spicy aroma of sansho (Japanese pepper), creating a profound taste. It pairs well with thick-cut potato chips, allowing you to easily enjoy the authentic taste of Kyoto. * The package features Kyoto's traditional colors, Kyo-murasaki (Kyoto purple) and Kyo-karakami patterns, with a large "Harem" icon. The design conveys the commitment to ingredients and a sense of quality at a glance.

~ About "Harem" in Miyagawa-cho, Kyoto ~

This is a long-established restaurant in Kyoto, known as the originator of "Chirimen Sansho."

It began when the first chef made it as a small gift to give to neighbors.

It is a Kyoto specialty born from the chef's creativity, combining seafood and mountain bounty simmered together.
