Cainz Corporation (Headquarters: Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture; President and CEO: Masayuki Takaie) is pleased to announce that it has concluded an "Agreement on Cooperation for Projects Contributing to Biodiversity and Nature Positive" (hereinafter referred to as "this Agreement") with Nagoya City and will begin selling native "Nagoya Seedlings" at five stores within the city.

This Agreement aims to improve citizen services, promote the spread of biodiversity and nature-positive concepts, and realize a society in harmony with nature by leveraging the respective resources and functions of Nagoya City and Cainz to promote projects that contribute to biodiversity and nature positive.

Based on this Agreement, we will work to promote the use of native "Nagoya Seedlings" that contribute to biodiversity-friendly greening(*) at all five stores in Nagoya City, thereby contributing to a better understanding of biodiversity.

*Biodiversity-friendly greening: Greening that takes into account the habitats, food sources, and resting places of living organisms.

What is Nature Positive? Nature Positive is an international goal that aims to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity.

In October 2023, Nagoya City became the first ordinance-designated city in Japan to issue a "Nature Positive Declaration" and is promoting various initiatives to encourage the spread and understanding of native species.

Sales of "Nagoya Seedlings" Based on this Agreement, native "Nagoya Seedlings" (such as Liriope muscari, Gardenia jasminoides, and Pieris japonica) that contribute to biodiversity-friendly greening will be sold at all five Cainz stores in Nagoya City.

We will strive to promote and raise awareness by setting up dedicated corners in stores, displaying posters, and attaching "Nagoya Seedlings" stickers to the target products.

About the "Nagoya Seedlings" Purchase Campaign We are planning a campaign for customers who purchase "Nagoya Seedlings" and respond to a survey conducted by Nagoya City. Participants will receive "Recycled Potting Soil (10L)," which is made from raw materials processed from garden soil collected at Cainz stores that is no longer needed by households. The start date will be announced separately after consultation with Nagoya City.

We will continue to work with Nagoya City to contribute to urban development that is in harmony with nature through the promotion of native species.

About the "Kumimachi Concept" "DIYing community life together." Since our founding, with the ambition of "contributing to the development of society through commerce," this is a unique Cainz concept where each store conducts business activities while staying close to the lives of the people in each region. By having our stores and the members (employees) who work there act as hubs, we carefully listen to the troubles, interests, and needs of each region. By collaborating and co-creating with various stakeholders involved in daily life, we aim to realize a "town" (local community) where people can be independent, enjoy themselves together, and help one another, and where each individual can play a leading role.
