Growing Interest in EVs Due to Uncertainty Over Soaring Fuel Prices

Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture – BYD Auto Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Atsuki Tofukuji; hereinafter referred to as BAJ) announced that the cumulative number of orders for "BYD Certified Used Cars (BYD CERTIFIED)" sold through its nationwide authorized dealer network has surpassed 500 units as of the end of May 2026.

BAJ began new passenger car sales in Japan in January 2023. In April 2024, the company established a "Certified Used Car System" and began focusing on selling high-quality, safe, and reliable certified used cars. As a result, the cumulative number of orders reached 519 units by the end of May 2026. Sales from January to May 2026 are approximately double the pace of last year (216 units: Jan-May 2026).

BYD Certified Used Cars, now in their second year since launch, have seen sales grow due to the following reasons:

1 Anxiety over uncertain fuel prices caused by recent geopolitical situations in the Middle East.

2 An increasing number of vehicles available as bases for certified used cars, such as dealer test drive vehicles and trade-ins.

3 Confidence in the safe and secure onboard batteries (Blade Battery using lithium iron phosphate) which do not pose a risk of fire.

BYD used cars are high-quality vehicles that meet all the following criteria:

1 Reliable Vehicles: Less than 4 years from the first registration date and less than 50,000 km mileage.

2 Reliable Maintenance Records: Legal inspections performed by BYD authorized dealers.

3 High Vehicle Quality: Updated to the latest software.

4 All essential consumable parts*1 replaced with new ones.

*1 Front and rear wipers, high-performance HEC filter, 12V lead-acid battery (varies by model).

Benefits of BYD Certified Used Cars

2. All vehicles are less than 4 years from first registration and have less than 50,000 km mileage.

3. Thoroughly screened for repair history and modifications by reviewing maintenance records from first registration.

- Rigorous quality inspection (62 items) by EV specialists.

- Maintenance inspection equivalent to the legal 12-month inspection performed, with consumable parts*2 replaced with new ones before delivery.

*2 Front and rear wipers, high-performance HEC filter, 12V battery (12V battery varies by model).

4. Warranty Equivalent to New Cars

- In addition to the 4-year new car warranty from the first registration date, a 1-year certified used car warranty is included.

- Warranty is valid regardless of mileage during the period.

- High-voltage components such as BYD's core Blade Battery and motor are also fully supported.

- High-voltage components are covered for 8 years or 160,000 km.

- Power battery is covered for 10 years / 300,000 km.
