BYD Auto Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa; President: Atsuki Tofukuji; hereafter 'BAJ') has begun deliveries of the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of its hybrid SUV, the 'BYD SEALION 6,' at authorized BYD dealers nationwide, as registration preparations are now complete. With this, the 'BYD SEALION 6' is now available in both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and AWD models, catering to customers who prioritize long-distance driving as well as those in cold or snowy regions who require AWD. BYD's hybrid model, the 'BYD SEALION 6,' is equipped with the proprietary 'DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligence)' technology, which is why the company refers to this series as a 'Super Hybrid.' In Japan, the FWD 'BYD SEALION 6' was pre-launched on December 1, 2025, and has since received approximately 900 orders (combined FWD and AWD) in four months. The 'BYD SEALION 6' accounts for 50% of BAJ's total passenger car orders for 2026, indicating growing interest in PHEVs. Furthermore, the synergy from the 'BYD SEALION 6' launch has also boosted orders for BYD's flagship EV, the 'BYD SEALION 7,' to 30%. (As of the end of March 2026). Popular body colors include Arctic White (46%), Stone Grey (20%), Cosmos Black (19%), and Harbor Grey (15%). The 'BYD SEALION 6' is an SUV developed under the concept of a hybrid where electricity plays the leading role. It offers EV-like quietness and smooth acceleration for daily driving, while combining engine-based power generation for long-distance travel. It provides an EV range of approximately 100km (WLTC mode). The AWD model features an electric all-wheel-drive system with front and rear motors, achieving 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds. Additionally, BAJ has launched the 'U-NEXT' video streaming app, a first for the company, allowing users to enjoy movies, dramas, and anime on the 15.6-inch high-resolution display while parked.
