At the "Tainan Five Channels International Cultural Exchange and Youth Interpretation Action" (hosted by Tainan City Government and Taiwan SDGs Association) held in Tainan, Taiwan on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30, a team including students from the Tanaka Katsumasa Seminar of the Faculty of Business Administration won the "Best Teamwork Award."
This event, led by the Tainan City Government and the Taiwan SDGs Association, saw participation from universities in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. Students formed multinational teams and engaged in fieldwork, creating analytical materials on cultural heritage, producing PR videos, and making presentations, all set in the port city of Five Channels, known as a living cultural heritage site. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che also visited the venue to personally encourage the students.
Third and fourth-year students from Bunkyo University (Tanaka Seminar) teamed up with Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan) and Toyo Eiwa University (Japan). They explored the theme "The Street Where Prayers Gather: Five Channels," examining the potential for World Heritage status through a comparison of faith between Taiwan and Japan. Their attitude of engaging in international exchange as one, despite differences in language and culture, was recognized as demonstrating the highest level of teamwork among all participating teams, leading to the Best Teamwork Award.

The Five Channels area, the stage for the activities, is a historical district that flourished as a commercial port during the Qing Dynasty (18th-19th centuries). It is a cultural asset where many temples and historical buildings, such as the Wind God Temple, Water Immortal Temple, and Shennong Street, still convey the prosperity of the past, while people's faith and daily life continue to thrive. The Tainan City government is actively working to protect and utilize this area.

◇ Mitsuru Araki (4th year, Tanaka Seminar)
I worked with friends across borders during the fieldwork in Five Channels (Shennong Street) and worked on the presentation. I am very happy that our efforts were recognized with the Best Teamwork Award. I will continue to take on new challenges based on this experience.
◇ Takumi Yoshida (4th year, Tanaka Seminar)
During the fieldwork in Five Channels, I worked with friends I met through the international exchange event, taking photos and videos, and repeatedly trying and refining our approach to produce a PR video. I am very pleased that the video we created will be used by Tainan City. I will cherish the lessons learned from this experience and continue to grow.
◇ Shinnosuke Shimizu (3rd year, Tanaka Seminar)
This experience of working with friends from different countries and universities has become an invaluable asset. I am confident that the time we spent communicating, laughing, and thinking together, overcoming language and cultural barriers, will be a great source of growth for me in the future.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the Tainan City Government, the Taiwan SDGs Association, and all the staff involved in organizing this event.
