BS Asahi 4K Broadcast Termination Announcement

BS Asahi Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter BS Asahi) announces that it will not renew its satellite core broadcasting business certification after January 24, 2027, for "BS Asahi 4K," as detailed below.

BS Asahi began broadcasting the 4K channel "BS Asahi 4K" in December 2018, delivering a variety of high-definition, high-quality 4K content to viewers. However, due to changes in the external environment and intensified competition, such as the rapid advancement of internet distribution and the spread of smart devices, the environment surrounding this business has become increasingly severe.

Under these circumstances, after careful consideration of the sustainability of this service, BS Asahi has decided to terminate the "BS Asahi 4K" broadcasting business. The specific broadcast termination date will be announced later after discussions with relevant parties.

Regarding 4K content produced by BS Asahi, based on a new framework jointly announced by five commercial BS broadcasters on March 19, 2026, it is scheduled to be offered for free on "WOWOW On Demand" starting this autumn. We will continue to produce high-quality 4K content, utilizing the expertise cultivated through 4K broadcasting, and deliver it to viewers.
