Our company supports April Dream, which aims to make April 1st a day to express dreams. This press release is "BRAIN Co., Ltd.'s dream."
Our Dream
"Realizing a society where post-stroke sequelae can be cured."
This is our April Dream.
What remains after being told "it can no longer be cured"
After a stroke, many people are told:
"You won't get any better than this." "From now on, it's about maintenance."
Receiving such words, a situation arises where one is forced to accept it as "something that will no longer recover."
However, in reality, even after discharge from the hospital, there are many cases where the possibility of functional improvement remains with appropriate assessment and rehabilitation.
Nevertheless, situations exist where:
・ Opportunities for rehabilitation decrease
・ Interventions based on scientific evidence are not sufficiently performed
・ The possibility of improvement is not considered, and time passes
Such situations exist.
Overlooked "Possibilities for Improvement"
In our clinical experience so far,
"New movements are seen in a hand that was said to be immobile."
We have experienced many such changes.
In some cases, movements that were not seen before appear after a short period of intervention.
Movement of a paralyzed arm before rehabilitation
BEFORE
An arm that was completely immobile after a cerebral infarction...
↓
Movement of a paralyzed arm after rehabilitation
AFTER
It started moving after 20 minutes of rehabilitation.
You can find a detailed explanation in this video.
In addition,
Movement of a paralyzed finger before rehabilitation
BEFORE
A finger that remained bent...
↓
Movement of a paralyzed finger after rehabilitation
AFTER
It started to straighten after 30 minutes of rehabilitation.
You can find a detailed explanation in this video.
This is not a coincidence, but rather the result of "brain science-based" analysis of the causes of immobility and appropriate setting of rehabilitation tasks, which unlocked functions that were not originally being expressed.
Of course, not everyone experiences the same changes.
However, the fact that "there are cases where the possibility of improvement remains" has been repeatedly confirmed in clinical practice.
Our Initiatives
For post-stroke sequelae, we provide rehabilitation that thoroughly aims for "improvement" through:
・ Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) rehabilitation
・ Introduction of cutting-edge rehabilitation equipment
・ Partnerships with regenerative medicine clinics
etc.
Instead of "somehow getting better," we aim to maximize the possibility of recovery through rehabilitation that can reproduce "getting better" by analyzing the causes of immobility and performing appropriate rehabilitation.
Furthermore, our company's initiatives have been selected for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Startup Support Project, receiving a certain evaluation for their social significance and feasibility.
Our April Dream
We want to re-examine the very premise that "post-stroke sequelae can no longer be improved."
To achieve this, we will:
・ Promote the spread of out-of-pocket rehabilitation as a new option
・ Implement scientifically-based rehabilitation
・ Research new rehabilitation methods
We will proceed with these.
And,
"Realize a society where post-stroke sequelae can be cured."
We will achieve this dream.
Why now?
With the aging population, the number of stroke patients continues to increase.
On the other hand, within the framework of the medical insurance system, there are limits to the provision of rehabilitation.
That is why now, society is being asked how to handle the possibility of recovery.
To Media Professionals
As an example of on-site initiatives related to this theme, we can introduce:
・ Rehabilitation implementation sites
・ Recovery cases
・ Out-of-pocket rehabilitation as a new option
These are available for introduction.
