Our company endorses April Dream, which aims to make April 1st a day for expressing dreams. This press release is a dream of "Bookoff Group Holdings Co., Ltd."
Bookoff Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director and President: Yasutaka Horiuchi; hereinafter "Bookoff") aims to create a society where everyone can realize the value and joy of reuse through business activities, such as initiatives for "August 8th Reuse Day" to deepen consumers' understanding of reuse, and the "Sustena Book Project" aimed at creating reading opportunities for children. By making reuse a normal part of daily life, people can let go of items without worry, and their lives and minds will be enriched by choosing to connect those items to someone else who needs them next.

■ Enrich your life with reuse. Bookoff's vision as a leading reuse company
The "richness" that Bookoff envisions as a dream is not merely having many things, but a state where people face objects with conviction and affection, and can live with peace of mind. In daily life, when clothes are changed, during spring cleaning, when buying new items, or when organizing belongings for a move, many people face the dilemma of "it's a waste to throw away something still usable" or "I don't know how to let go of it." Reuse, which involves repeatedly using items without changing their form, solves these consumer problems and is an action that connects unwanted items to the next person who needs them.
Through its reuse business, Bookoff provides the feeling that "someone will cherish the things I cherished," as well as nostalgia and the joy of discovering value. Furthermore, reuse contributes to reducing CO2 emissions from waste by extending the lifespan of items, and also leads to a reduction in resources used for new production. This is the second highest priority initiative among the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) for realizing a circular economy (※1). However, according to a Ministry of the Environment survey (※2), approximately 70% of consumers have not used reuse in the past year, remaining flat in both 2018 and 2021 surveys, indicating that the reuse population is still insufficient for accelerating a circular economy.
By expanding the choice of connecting items to the next person who needs them, rather than discarding them, as a common behavior for consumers, the range of ways to let go of items will increase, contributing to the realization of a circular economy. Through reuse, Bookoff aims to solve everyday consumer problems while expanding a "rich" life for both people and society.
Experiencing reuse to deepen understanding, and increasing opportunities to easily reuse items in familiar places and daily routines, will change the image of reuse itself into a "fun and smart choice," creating an impetus for consumers to choose reuse actions in their daily lives. Bookoff will continue to contribute to expanding the reuse population through various services centered on reuse and regional contribution activities, working towards a world where reuse is easily accessible in daily life according to consumer needs.
■ Partnering with endorsing companies to change consumer behavior. "August 8th Reuse Day" in 2026 to deepen understanding through experience

The aforementioned low reuse utilization is due to concerns about買取事業者 (purchase businesses) stemming from the opacity of purchase prices and how discarded items are utilized, as well as the time and effort required for selling, regardless of whether it's at a store or through a flea market app. To transform such negative perceptions of reuse into positive ones and encourage behavioral change triggered by August 8th Reuse Day, we will hold a reuse experience event in 2026 for elementary school students learning about a circular economy and their guardians.
The first experience event, held jointly by six reuse companies in 2025, was supported by the Ministry of the Environment and endorsed by 26 companies, including six reuse companies, as well as those engaged in sharing economy and upcycling. Over two days, 259 children and 555 attendees including guardians visited, deepening their understanding of reuse and taking a step towards incorporating it into their daily lives. A survey conducted among visitors last year showed that 93.4% "deepened their understanding of reuse" and 97.4% "wanted to engage in reuse in their daily lives" through participation in the event, creating an opportunity to view environmental issues as personal and to engage in reuse daily. Following the event, we received numerous requests for participation from companies and expectations for the next event from attendees. Therefore, we will establish an executive committee again this year to create continuous opportunities to deepen consumers' understanding of reuse with the second event.

Furthermore, by co-creating with endorsing companies, expanding the target audience and touchpoints from the event, and creating opportunities to think about reuse through each company's business and services, we can deepen the recognition that choices made unconsciously are connected to a circular economy and encourage action, leading to greater "richness" for more consumers. Companies that empathize with and endorse this dream, and are willing to undertake initiatives triggered by August 8th Reuse Day, regardless of whether costs are incurred, are welcome to inquire.

■ "School Bookoff" project for SDGs activities x career education. Reuse learning for children who will lead the future through school education
Initiatives to deepen the understanding of reuse among children and consumers who will lead the future are not limited to "August 8th Reuse Day." We also implement the "School Bookoff" project, which combines SDGs activities and career education, allowing participants to enjoyably deepen their understanding of how a circular economy works. "School Bookoff" started its first classes in September 2021, offering lessons using a curriculum about the Bookoff Group's reuse business. By using Bookoff, a familiar store, as a subject, the content makes it easy for students to view social and environmental issues as their own. To date, over 15,000 elementary school students (as of the end of March 2026) have participated, learning about the circular economy while enjoying activities such as reuse and Bookoff store operation experiences.
