Boku to Watashi to Inc., a company specializing in planning and 'Emo-Marketing' targeting Gen Z, conducted a consciousness survey on 500 Gen Z individuals who have mothers.

As Mother's Day approaches on May 10th, the study explored what kind of existence mothers are for Gen Z. It analyzed the frequency of daily communication, topics of consultation, SNS connections, and impressions of mothers from various perspectives such as gender and living arrangements, revealing the actual state of parent-child relationships unique to Gen Z.

### Summary - Mothers are a 'supporting presence.' Among females and those living apart, 'friend-like existence' stands out. - Gen Z contacts mothers frequently. About 80% at least once a week, and over half 'almost daily.' - Consultation topics for Gen Z are 'Daily Life,' 'Health/Mental,' and 'Career.' About 40% of males answered they 'do not consult.' - Relationships tend to improve after moving out. Compared to childhood, about 90% have 'maintained or improved' the relationship. - LINE is the mainstream SNS for connecting with mothers. Instagram and X are used to keep track of recent updates. - The image of a Gen Z mother is a 'Worrying Mom.' There is a gender gap: females see a 'Friend Mom' and males see a 'Saving Mom.'

### Detailed Findings #### Mothers are a 'supporting presence' When asked what kind of existence their mother is, 'Supporting presence' (30.4%) was the most common, followed by 'Normal family member' (20.2%) and 'Respected parent' (20.0%). Notably, among females and those living apart, 'Friend-like existence' (25.5%) was over 10% higher than the overall average (14.8%).

#### High Frequency of Contact Regarding communication frequency, 77.0% contact their mothers at least once a week, and 54.4% do so 'almost daily.' While those living together have high frequency regardless of gender, among those living apart, 62.8% of females contact daily or several times a week, compared to only 43.6% of males.

#### Topics of Consultation The most common topic is 'Daily life' such as cooking and chores (42.6%), followed by 'Health/Mental' (35.2%) and 'Career' (35.0%). Females consult more (about 80%), while nearly 40% of males across all living arrangements say they 'do not consult.'

#### Relationship Improvement About 40% answered that they have become closer than in childhood. Including those who say it hasn't changed (48.0%), about 90% have maintained or improved their bond. Moving out seems to trigger a re-evaluation of the mother's presence and gratitude.
