- Ultrason® P 3010 BMB replaces fossil-based raw materials with bio-circular raw materials, allocated to the material through a certified biomass balance approach. - Drop-in solution: Ultrason® P 3010 BMB offers the same properties, processability, and certifications as standard Ultrason® products. - BASF will be exhibiting at: CHINAPLAS 2026, National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai, Booth No. 7.2C41.
BASF (headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany) is expanding its portfolio of certified biomass-balanced polyarylethersulfones with Ultrason® P 3010 BMB, a polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) with a 20% allocation of bio-circular raw materials. Customers in industries such as household and catering items, water and sanitation equipment, medical technology, water electrolysis equipment, and electrical and electronic devices can now leverage Ultrason® P 3010 BMB to promote the use of renewable resources and accelerate the transition to a more circular economy. This newly added grade to the Ultrason® portfolio helps customers achieve their sustainability goals without compromising material performance or quality, and without requiring investment in new equipment.
In Ultrason® P 3010 BMB, a portion of the fossil raw materials used in the initial stages of the production process is replaced by renewable raw materials derived from organic waste and residue biomass. These bio-circular raw materials are allocated to the Ultrason® P grade through a mass balance approach certified according to ISCC PLUS(1). The BMB grade is manufactured at BASF's Ludwigshafen plant in Germany using 100% green electricity through a resource-efficient and emissions-optimized process. This method provides customers with a drop-in solution that is chemically identical to the standard Ultrason® P 3010 grade. Therefore, no re-evaluation, re-certification, or changes to processing conditions are required.
Equivalent Performance – Supporting Customer Sustainability Goals
Nanami Robeck, BASF's Global Business Management Ultrason® representative, states: "Through Ultrason® P 3010 BMB, we are helping our customers drive green transformation from the early stages of their sustainability initiatives. By choosing Ultrason® P 3010 BMB, customers contribute to replacing fossil resources, promote the use of renewable raw materials, and differentiate themselves from competitors through additional sustainability benefits." Ultrason® P 3010 BMB offers the same excellent high-temperature stability, chemical resistance, toughness, and long-term durability expected from BASF's PPSU materials. It provides customers with the same performance and certification content as conventional products, including suitability for applications requiring strict safety and quality, such as baby bottles, components in contact with drinking water, and medical devices. In 2025, BASF announced Ultrason® E 2010 BMB, the industry's first polyethersulfone (PESU) using a biomass balance approach with 39% bio-circular raw material allocation, certified with ISCC PLUS.
Ultrason® is the brand name for BASF's product family consisting of polyethersulfone (Ultrason® E), polysulfone (Ultrason® S), and polyphenylsulfone (Ultrason® P). These high-performance thermoplastics are utilized in the manufacture of water filtration membranes, stylish, durable, and safe household and catering items, and lightweight components used in the automotive and aerospace industries. Due to its excellent properties, the Ultrason® brand can be used as a substitute for thermosets, metals, glass, and ceramics.

(1) ISCC PLUS is a sustainability certification scheme for the sustainable use of biomass resources in the chemical industry. Certifications based on these schemes confirm that the biomass used is sustainable and that the required quantities are supplied to the production system. They also confirm that sustainable biomass is correctly allocated to the corresponding sales product. This certification is granted based on on-site audits by independent auditors.
