Barneys Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Penny Luo) will hold a solo exhibition by Yutaka Hashimoto from Tuesday, May 19 to Wednesday, June 3, at “UNION SQUARE” on the 1st floor of Barneys New York Ginza Store.

Hashimoto's characters are anonymous portraits, composed of black and white, lines and blank spaces, which are common images reconstructed by the artist himself, taking inspiration from mass-produced characters such as those by Osamu Tezuka and Walt Disney.

Viewers experience a feeling of 'unknowability' by perceiving subtle differences between the characters in their memory and the artworks. When this feeling is shared with others, it creates an 'entry point for common experience' that transcends differences. For Hashimoto, this process is also a practice to remove boundaries and divisions between people, positioning it as a form on the way to 'null' and a 'study for null'.
