Autodesk, Inc. (Headquarters: California, USA / President & CEO: Andrew Anagnost, hereinafter "Autodesk") announced the addition of "Wonder 3D," a new generative AI model, to "Autodesk Flow Studio," its AI-powered cloud-based platform for character and video production. Wonder 3D is a feature that can generate editable 3D characters and objects from text input or images, accelerating a wide range of creative workflows from concept creation to prototyping, game development, and video production.

Flow Studio (formerly Wonder Studio) is known as a cloud-based production environment that can transform live-action footage into editable 3D scenes using AI. With the addition of Wonder 3D, it has evolved into a platform that consistently supports not only video production but also "3D asset generation."

"Ideas" directly into 3D: Generative AI significantly lowers the barrier to 3D production

Traditionally, 3D character and 3D object creation required many specialized processes and advanced skills, such as modeling, topology design, UV unwrapping, and texture creation. As a result, it generally took a long time and significant production costs to bring ideas to fruition.

Wonder 3D is a generative AI model developed to solve these challenges. Users can generate editable 3D models in a short time simply by entering text prompts or reference images. The generated models can be freely edited and adjusted in subsequent processes, making it possible to integrate them directly into actual production workflows, rather than just generating images.

Autodesk emphasizes that Wonder 3D is about "AI not replacing creators, but reducing repetitive tasks and providing an environment where they can focus on creative decision-making."

Key Features of Wonder 3D

Text to 3D: Generate 3D characters and objects from text

Users simply enter a short text prompt, and AI automatically generates 3D characters, props, and objects. The generated assets are output as editable 3D data, allowing for modifications and reuse in subsequent processes.

This significantly speeds up the initial stages of game production, video production, and XR development by quickly converting concept art ideas into 3D.

Image to 3D: Automatically generate 3D models from sketches and reference images

The Image to 3D function reads 2D images such as concept art, rough sketches, and photos, and AI converts them into 3D geometry.

This significantly shortens the process that traditionally required 3D modelers to manually reconstruct. It allows for rapid iteration of design trials and variations.

Text to Image / Edit Image: First review visuals in 2D, then move directly to 3D

Wonder 3D supports a workflow where, instead of immediately starting 3D production, users can first generate 2D visuals using the Text to Image function to confirm direction before converting to 3D.

Furthermore, it includes an "Edit Image" function that allows direct editing of generated images on the AI. This enables adjustments to colors, design elements, and composition without having to start from scratch.

Supporting "rapid trial and error" rather than "perfect completion"

Autodesk emphasizes that Wonder 3D focuses not on "generating a perfect 3D model in one go," but on "providing an environment where ideas can be quickly tested and improved repeatedly."

While generative AI accelerates the initial pace of production, the final creative judgment and quality adjustments are handled by the creators themselves. This approach is unique to Autodesk, which has long provided professional production tools such as Maya and 3ds Max.

Supports a wide range of applications: from games, video, XR, to 3D printing

Wonder 3D is expected to be utilized in the following applications:

Character and prop creation for game development Concept art for video production 3D asset generation for XR/virtual production Prototype model creation for 3D printing 3D visual generation for advertising and social media content

Generated models can be exported in OBJ format, and used in Maya, Blender, games.
