ATOMica Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture, Co-CEOs: Mizuki Shimada and Kazuki Nanbara, hereinafter "ATOMica") is pleased to announce that its "ATOMica Miyazaki" facility will host a workshop event for junior high school, high school, and university students titled "From Knowing to Changing: The Ocean Pollution Problem" on "Ocean Day," July 20, 2026. This event is planned and organized by "Now me," a community of current high school students associated with ATOMica Miyazaki.

Current High School Student Community "Now me"

"Now me" is a community of current high school students formed as part of the "Creating a Place for Junior and Senior High School Students Utilizing Private Facilities" project, commissioned by Miyazaki City. At ATOMica Miyazaki, professional "Community Managers" who connect people regularly listen to the voices of the high school students who visit the facility. Through these conversations, the students' desire to "do something themselves" came together, leading to the formation of "Now me." Under the theme of "What the current me (Now me) can do," they challenge themselves with regional issue-solving and planning events where peers can connect, all from a student's perspective. This workshop is one of the initiatives born from the students' own initiative.

Background of the Event: Towards a Place for "Thinking Together" Rather Than "Being Taught"

Environmental and social issues can often feel difficult and distant from oneself. In addition to learning from teachers, if students can exchange opinions on a flat playing field, they can make the issues their own while having fun. "Now me" believes this and has chosen the familiar theme of "ocean pollution" to coincide with "Ocean Day." On the day of the event, participants will not just discuss but also pursue "how to convey this to more people," presenting their ideas through unique methods such as quizzes, presentations, and theatrical performances in groups.

Initiatives Continuing After the Event

The outputs created during the event (quizzes, presentation content, etc.) will be displayed for a limited time in the "Place for Junior and Senior High School Students" space within ATOMica Miyazaki after the event. We aim for a sustainable initiative that continues to send messages to junior and senior high school students in the region, not ending on the day itself.

Message from "Now me"

We are a community formed by current high school students who gathered through Miyazaki City's "Place for Junior and Senior High School Students." Under the theme of "What the current me (Now me) can do," we engage in regional issue-solving and planning/challenging events where peers can connect, all from a student's perspective. We want to discuss what our generation can do to protect Miyazaki's beautiful ocean for the future, rather than just reading about distant news in school textbooks. We want to make it a fun time where everyone can freely share ideas, not a stuffy study session, so please come and cover the event!
