To the modern spirits breathing in the sacred garden of mythology.

Atelier Shimura (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Shoji Shimura) will hold a special exhibition "Sacred Deer Garden (Yuniwa)" from Friday, April 17 to Wednesday, April 29 (holiday), featuring sculptor Yoshimasa Tsuchiya and Mayumi Minagawa of AFLO+.

This exhibition is the first collaborative effort among Tsuchiya, who carves animals from wood; Minagawa of AFLO+, who creates fantasy plants from thread and fabric; and Atelier Shimura, who weaves the life of plants. All three share a common reverence for nature. It will express a "Sacred Garden (Yuniwa)" that can only be encountered here, featuring new wooden sculptures and accessories inspired by the Kashima-dachi legend of Kasuga Taisha Shrine. During the exhibition period, a talk event on the theme of "Art and Nature" by the three artists will also be held.

AFLO+

Beautiful fantasy plants born from a single thread or a single piece of fabric. AFLO+ meticulously finishes such plant-motif works by hand. Using Kyoto's traditional silk threads as the primary material, the works, while delicate, possess a distinct presence, leveraging their texture and colors. Based in Kyoto, AFLO+ creates understated yet elegant accessories and objects, as well as wedding items, which are presented at solo exhibitions and sales events. They have collaborated twice with Atelier Shimura, using threads and fabric dyed by Atelier Shimura.

About Atelier Shimura

Atelier Shimura is a dyeing and weaving brand centered around Shoji Shimura, grandson of dyer and weaver Fukumi Shimura, and the next generation of creators. At their workshops in Kyoto and Tokyo, individuals captivated by the world of plant colors gather to create unique, one-of-a-kind products. While inheriting rich philosophies through dyeing and weaving, they continuously explore how to beautify life and define appropriate activities for the times, such as creating cultural experience venues centered on dyeing and weaving through "workshops" and "learning sessions." They look forward to meeting people who can deepen their learning together in nature and art, and wish to be a workshop with ever-open doors.
