ATAMI Jacaranda Festival 2026

"Jacaranda," the flower that announces early summer in Atami. One of the world's three major flowering trees distributed in tropical regions, two trees were gifted in 1990 from Cascais, Portugal, an international sister city. While it is said to be difficult to bloom in Japan, over 100 trees have been planted in Atami, and you can see refreshing bluish-purple flowers mainly along the coast. During the period, bamboo lanterns will be lit up from 18:00 to 22:00.

Go! Spo-Walk: Atami Umaimon (Delicious Food) Walk 10k

The second installment of the "Umaimon Walk" series where you can fully enjoy "Walking x Tourism x Gourmet". The "Atami Umaimon Walk 10k", where you walk while feeling the atmosphere of Atami's sea, mountains, and hot spring town, will be held on Saturday, June 27th. Starting from Atami Water Park, you will walk 10km south while viewing the Ginza Shopping Street, Kiunkaku, Atami Castle, etc., up to Onawa Park near Ajiro Station. The fun part is the supplementary food using local specialties provided at aid stations. Kinomiya Shrine "Nagoshi no Oharae" / Izusan Shrine "Minazuki Oharae"

"Oharae" (Great Purification) held at shrines nationwide on the last day of June and December. It is a Shinto ritual that purifies the impurities of the past half year and prays for good health in the new half year starting the next day. The June Oharae is also called "Minazuki no Harae" or "Nagoshi no Harae", and the "Chinowa Kuguri" (passing through a hoop of cogon grass) is performed to ward off evil. At Kinomiya Shrine, a special cogon grass hoop made of iron is set up. On the day of the event, paper dolls (hitogata) onto which sins and impurities have been transferred are burned, performing purification by fire. At Izusan Shrine, the customary Chinowa Kuguri can be performed until early July.
