Background and Purpose of the Research

In recent years, early turnover among the younger generation has been recognized as a serious social issue (so-called '7-5-3 problem'). In this research, we focused on 'single young regular employees living alone in major metropolitan areas (four major metropolitan areas)' who are particularly susceptible to changes in the environment and social isolation, and conducted a two-year follow-up survey (longitudinal survey) to examine how turnover intention leads to actual turnover. Additionally, we also analyzed the needs for 'reskilling' that contributes to engagement improvement.

Three Major Findings of This Research

Through the analysis of this research, the following three points have been clarified.

Identification of Factors Influencing Turnover Intention

It was confirmed that the current turnover intention of young employees is strongly influenced by the 'strength of loneliness', the 'quality of communication with supervisors', and 'satisfaction with compensation systems'.

Risk of Prolonged Turnover Intention (2.3 times)

While the previous year's turnover intention did not show a significant risk for 'actual turnover' in the following year, it was suggested that it increases the risk of 'maintaining turnover intention in the following year (a state of psychological stagnation continues)' by approximately 2.3 times. This is an important implication for preventing 'quiet quitting', which has been attracting attention in recent years.

Trends in 'Reskilling' Sought by Young Employees

It was suggested that in addition to IT skills, management, and language skills that directly relate to business, there is a high demand for skills that contribute to self-cultivation, such as writing and interpersonal skills.

Future Prospects and Company Initiatives

The results of this research show that in order for companies to retain young employees, it is extremely effective not only to improve labor conditions but also to 'build relationships with supervisors', 'create a workplace environment that addresses loneliness', and 'provide growth opportunities (reskilling) that the individual desires'.

The Company will continue to integrate reliable research data and academic insights to provide optimal solutions tailored to the changing labor market.
