The multi-purpose salon hall La Salle F in Hiroo, Tokyo, will hold its first independent art program, Towa Takaya's 'Crescendo in Obscurity', from Friday, April 24 to Thursday, April 30, 2026.
In this project, Towa Takaya, who is attracting global attention as a contemporary artist exploring the relationship between light and time, will display limited works using cosmetic pearl materials from joint research with Shiseido, as well as works adopted for high school Japanese textbook covers from April of this year.
Additionally, based on an exploration of materiality, the exhibition will focus on a series of works that have expanded into invisible layers such as air and presence.
Furthermore, in the venue equipped with a Steinway full concert grand piano, original music composed by artist and pianist Jinsei Kimura, inspired by Takaya's works, will be played.
Please enjoy this crossover collaboration that transcends the boundaries of art, woven by Takaya's artwork—which expresses the shifting of images due to changes in viewpoint and the perceptual fluctuation born between the figurative and the abstract—and Kimura's piano melodies, which evoke the resonance of all things in nature.
■ Artist Message for 'Crescendo in Obscurity'
Rather than being revealed in the light, images slowly appear and fluctuate within changes in light and viewpoint.
In this exhibition, with invisible realms such as air and presence as the theme, I focus on works dealing with the process of images emerging while light and matter resonate. I have selected works that evoke the presence and rhythm of sound, composing them to correspond with the resonance of the space.
The feeling of growing stronger within what is unseen, like a rising sound.
I would be delighted if you could listen closely to those faint changes.
