The two main types of termites that cause significant damage to buildings in Japan are Yamato Termites and Ie Termites. They are active all year round under floors and within walls, but Yamato Termites swarm in large numbers as winged termites from April to May (June in the Tohoku region), and Ie Termites from May to July. If you see winged termites appearing inside or around your house, there might be a termite nest.

Insecticides are not highly recommended as winged termites may burrow into the soil.
