Asahi Kasei Homes Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Yuji Oowaku) announces that it has received the 'Grand Prize' at the 'Japan Resilience Awards (*2) 2026' sponsored by the Association for Resilience Japan (*1). The award recognized the 'Challenge to True Disaster Prevention in Urban High-Rise Condominiums' initiative, applied jointly with Shinagawa Ward. This initiative was highly evaluated for its integrated design of 'self-help' through building planning and 'mutual-help' collaborating with the neighborhood association, residents, and the local administration, as well as its high modelability and sustainability for disaster prevention in urban high-rise condominiums.

Atlas Tower Gotanda, the base of the initiative

*1. The Association for Resilience Japan was established based on the results of the 'National Resilience Roundtable', a private advisory body to the Minister of State for Disaster Management. It aims to smoothly achieve the 'Fundamental Plan for National Resilience' by gathering wisdom from all of Japan—industry, academia, government, and the private sector—and creating strategies for strategic utilization not only in emergencies but also in normal times, maximizing the synergistic effect of public and private investment, and building a resilient nation.

*2. The 'Japan Resilience Award' is a system hosted by the Association for Resilience Japan (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Chairman: Michiaki Hirose) to discover, evaluate, and recognize advanced activities, technological developments, and product developments contributing to building a resilient country, regions, people, and industries toward the realization of a resilient society for the next generation.

◆ Award Overview

'Challenge to True Disaster Prevention in Urban High-Rise Condominiums'
This award highly praises the implementation of 'mutual-help disaster prevention' that maintains everyday connections with the local community, rather than just merely installing disaster prevention equipment. The base of the initiative is the condominium 'Atlas Tower Gotanda'.

I. Creation of a Mutual-Help Base for the Community and Condominium Residents by Installing a Neighborhood Association Disaster Warehouse on the Condominium Premises

A disaster prevention equipment and materials warehouse for the Nishi-Gotanda Honcho neighborhood association was installed on the condominium premises. It is used not only as a local disaster prevention base during emergencies but also stores a portable shrine used in local festivals. By being utilized for community events and festivals, it serves as a new mutual-help and exchange base where residents and the local community can interact on a daily basis.

II. Achieving Community Communication via DX by Enabling the Neighborhood Association to Post Information to the Residents-Only App

Introduced the condominium residents-only community app 'Book & Share' (*3), allowing the neighborhood association to also disseminate information. This has built an environment where residents and the community can quickly and easily share information not only during disasters but also in normal times.

III. Building an Integrated Disaster Prevention System among Administration, Private Sector, and Local Residents through Disaster Prevention Events

Held a stamp rally-style disaster prevention event (*4) touring the disaster prevention equipment within the condominium (tide boards, AEDs, fire extinguishers, etc.) and the neighborhood association disaster warehouse. Shinagawa Ward, the fire department, the neighborhood association, the management association, and the developer collaborated to create an opportunity to learn about disaster prevention while having fun. Approximately 60 people participated in the event, achieving a high participation rate for resident-participatory disaster prevention, which is usually considered difficult in high-rise condominiums.

IV. Strengthening Hardware Measures Considering Inundation Risks

Considering its location along the Meguro River, hazard maps and past inundation history were verified. Inundation countermeasures that can maintain life infrastructure even during a disaster were implemented, such as installing tide boards and placing private power generation equipment and water receiving tanks on the second-floor level.

V. Looking Ahead

This case serves as a guideline for future disaster prevention and community collaboration in urban condominium development, and it is expected to be rolled out to other properties as an initiative embodying our urban development philosophy.
Asahi Kasei Homes will continue to strive for sustainable urban development that enhances disaster prevention capabilities together with the local community, in addition to improving building safety.
