Maebashi International Art Festival 2026 Launches Ticket Sales, Featuring 70 Artists Including Martin Margiela

The Chain Museum has introduced its art communication platform, ArtSticker, as the official ticket sales system for the 'Maebashi International Art Festival 2026,' to be held in downtown Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture.

This biennial international art festival is rooted in the 'Mebuku' urban development vision established by Maebashi City in 2016. It follows a private-led urban renewal process, drawing the city's present and future through art. The theme for the inaugural event is 'Mebuku: Where good things grow.' The festival will invite 70 artist groups from diverse fields, including modern art, architecture, music, poetry, theater, and gastronomy, executing over 20 programs in collaboration with local creators.

Venues include Arts Maebashi as the main facility, along with over 20 unique locations such as the Shiroiya Hotel, designed by architect Sou Fujimoto, and the Maebashi Galleria, designed by Akihisa Hirata. Artworks will also be installed in shopping arcades and public spaces, creating a walkable art experience where visitors can explore modern architecture and art within a 500-meter radius.

Artists will present projects that resonate with the city's daily life and history.
- Tadashi Kawamata: 'Tree Hut Project' at Arts Maebashi and Towabank's 'Ikoi no Hiroba'.
- Alexa Kumiko Hatanaka: A rising artist featured at the Venice Biennale, presenting at Arts Maebashi.
- Martin Margiela: Presenting a redefined exhibition at Arts Maebashi and Maebashi Galleria.
- Mika Ninagawa with EiM: Presenting new work at the Hause Building.
- Others: Numerous participants including Keiichiro Shibuya and Tahi Saihate.

An opening live event featuring Jim O'Rourke and others will be held from September 19 to 21 at the Hause Building.
