ArkEdge Space Inc. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takayoshi Fukuyo; hereinafter "ArkEdge Space"), a provider of comprehensive solutions ranging from the planning and design to the mass production and operation of microsatellite constellations, is pleased to announce that it has received the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) President's Award at the 7th Space Development and Utilization Awards, hosted by the Cabinet Office.
The "Space Development and Utilization Awards" is a program that recognizes cases that have achieved remarkable results in promoting space development and utilization, and have made significant contributions to the field through pioneering initiatives.
This award recognizes the company's establishment of a mass-production model that integrates IT technology into the development, operation, and utilization of microsatellites. This initiative was highly evaluated for encouraging the participation of players with limited experience in the space sector and for its potential to drive future widespread adoption. Furthermore, the company was commended for its practical promotion of the digital transformation (DX) of space systems and its expansion into diverse domestic and international fields while advancing mass production.
ArkEdge Space has established a mass-production model for multi-purpose 6U microsatellites in collaboration with the Nakasuka-Funase-Iguri Laboratory at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, and Seiren Co., Ltd. (Fukui Headquarters: Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture; Tokyo Headquarters: Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Tatsuo Kawada).
By developing a 6U general-purpose satellite bus based on the University of Tokyo's advanced 6U satellite model and building a mass-production system in partnership with Seiren, the company has established an end-to-end system covering satellite planning, design, development, manufacturing, operation, and data provision. Under this system, the company successfully achieved the orbital insertion and commencement of operations for nine satellites in the one-year period from December 2024 to November 2025. This is the highest number of satellites deployed and put into operation by a Japanese organization within a 12-month period (based on company research). Including these, the company has a track record of developing and operating 18 satellites (*1) to date, and has rapidly demonstrated diverse missions such as global AIS information acquisition, hyperspectral imaging, and IoT communication using microsatellites.
Furthermore, through the satellite data utilization platform "ArkEdge Insights®," the company provides an environment where satellite data can be utilized via a web browser without the need for specialized knowledge or dedicated tools. This platform is being put to practical use as a government system in Paraguay, and trial implementations have begun with domestic local governments as well as in Brazil and Fiji. The company is promoting the social implementation of space utilization while collaborating with diverse partners, including universities, private companies, and government agencies both in Japan and abroad.
ArkEdge Space will continue to broaden the base of space utilization through the mass production and social implementation of microsatellites, working to create new value and solve social issues in the industrial, administrative, and research sectors.
*1: A portion of the microsatellite manufacturing utilizes the results of a subsidized project, which was selected with support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in fiscal year 2021, and from fiscal year 2023 onwards, has been supported by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) under the "Research and Development Project for Space Industry Technology Information Infrastructure (Support for Development and Demonstration of General-Purpose Microsatellite Buses) / Development and Demonstration of 6U Standard General-Purpose Bus and its Production/Operation System for Rapid and Efficient Multi-Type/Multi-Unit Production."
