ArkEdge Space Inc. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takayoshi Fukuyo; hereinafter referred to as "ArkEdge Space"), a company that provides comprehensive solutions from planning and design to mass production and operation of ultra-small satellite constellations, is pleased to announce that it has received the Director General's Award from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) at the "7th Space Development and Utilization Grand Prize," hosted by the Cabinet Office.

The "Space Development and Utilization Grand Prize" is a system that recognizes cases that have made significant achievements and pioneering efforts in promoting space development and utilization, and have contributed greatly to its advancement.

In this award, ArkEdge Space was highly recognized for establishing a mass-production model that integrates IT technologies for the development, operation, and utilization of ultra-small satellites, thereby encouraging participation from players with little experience in the space field and leading to future popularization. Furthermore, the company was praised for actually promoting the DX of space systems, advancing mass production while expanding its reach into diverse domestic and international domains.

ArkEdge Space, in collaboration with the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Nakasu-Funase-Isari Laboratory, and SEIREN CO., LTD. (Fukui Headquarters: Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture; Tokyo Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Tatsuo Kawata), has established a mass-production model for multi-purpose 6U ultra-small satellites.

Based on the University of Tokyo's advanced 6U satellite model, they developed a 6U general-purpose satellite bus and, in collaboration with SEIREN, built a mass-production system. This has enabled them to establish a system that handles everything from satellite planning, design, development, manufacturing, and operation to data provision. Under this system, they achieved the launch and operational start of 9 satellites within the one-year period from December 2024 to November 2025. This is the highest number of satellite launches and operational starts by a Japanese organization or institution in a 12-month period (self-researched). Including these, they have a track record of developing and operating 18 satellites (*1) to date, and have rapidly demonstrated diverse missions such as global AIS information acquisition, hyperspectral image acquisition, and IoT communication using ultra-small satellites.

Furthermore, through the satellite data utilization platform "ArkEdge Insights®," they provide an environment where satellite data can be utilized on a web browser without specialized knowledge or tools. It is being practically applied as a government system in Paraguay, and trial implementations have begun in domestic local governments, Brazil, Fiji, and other locations. They are promoting the social implementation of space utilization in collaboration with diverse partners, including universities, private companies, and government agencies, both domestically and internationally.

ArkEdge Space will continue to broaden the scope of space utilization through the mass production and social implementation of ultra-small satellites, creating new value and solving social issues in the industrial, administrative, and research fields.

*1: Part of the manufacturing of ultra-small artificial satellites was adopted with support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in FY2021, and since FY2023, the results of the NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) project "Space Industry Technology Infrastructure Development Research and Development Project (Development and Demonstration Support for Ultra-Small Satellite General-Purpose Buses) / Development and Demonstration of a 6U Standard General-Purpose Bus Enabling Rapid and Efficient Multi-Type Multi-Unit Production and its Production and Operation System" have been utilized.
