Araya Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Ryota Kanai; hereinafter "Araya") has entered into a contract to investigate and examine the potential of support technologies that integrate and utilize brain information and AI technology, as part of the "Pioneering Research" within the "Innovative Breakthrough Research" promoted by the Institute of Science and Technology for Defense Innovation, Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency.

Background and Overview of the Initiative

In recent years, with the rapid advancement of AI technology, research to support and augment human decision-making and actions has been accelerating in various countries. In Europe, the United States, and China, research that scientifically understands the mechanisms of human perception, judgment, and action, and enhances those capabilities by integrally utilizing human sciences such as brain science and psychology with AI technology, is progressing. Araya has been engaged in the research and development of AI technologies that understand internal human states, starting from the measurement and analysis of brain information. This service applies that knowledge to challenges in the defense and security domain. In this service, by integrally utilizing brain information and AI technology, we will jointly investigate, examine, verify, and propose various support technologies that have not been realized to date, together with our partner companies for this service, VIE Inc. and Humanity Brain Inc.

Furthermore, this service will be carried out with appropriate consideration for ELSI (Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues).

Future Outlook

The results of this pioneering research are planned to be utilized for the concretization of research plans in full-scale research. Araya will continue to promote research and development in NeuroAI, the fusion domain of brain science and AI, and contribute to solving diverse societal challenges, including those in the defense and security domain.
